Tonight is HISTORICAL, yet trivialized by media

Started by Karoli · 1 year ago

Barack Obama will earn the right to be called the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party tonight. This is an historical moment. It’s HUGE. HUGE.

What are the pundits talking about right now?

They could be talking about how monumental it is that this man has overcome the barriers that he has.

They could be talking [...] ... Continue reading »

  • I agree, Hillary supporters need to stand down tonight. This is historic. He has been such a leader with such courage.
  • And tomorrow he starts the hard stuff. But he can do this, I believe it. He can and we can. I just made a donation to the campaign in honor of this night.
  • The reason that the media does this is twofold. They want to seem impartial is one reason.

But the other is because they are a bunch of insiders - no, elitist insiders - who, throughout most of the campaign were more concerned about delegate counts (which can be important) than issues. Then controversy (which can be important) than issues. It's as if they all had their pens and papers calculating what the likely result was.

Now they're engaged in a guessing game as to whom will be the VP. It's also being stoked on by Hillary people.

Brokaw made a good point. They're going to have to analyze Bill's earnings and his speaker fees and his library contributors. That's because when you get Hillary, you really get Billary.

But you're right. To me, the media loses touch with people and it shows by their inane focus on the inside process.

This is a historic night. And I'm proud of Barack Obama. And my country.
  • Can you imagine similar reporting about anything else as it broke? It boggles my mind. Imagine 9-11 speculation the day of the attack... was it the Iraqis or the Afghans? Maybe Palestinians? What do you think it will take for Bush to retaliate? Will he nuke them? Let's run a poll...

The idiocy has gone beyond idle speculation at this point. It's disgusting that they're not looking at this campaign for what has been accomplished instead of what has caused division.

I tell you, it just drives me craaaaazy.
  • Hear, hear!
  • I am fascinated to read this interpretation of tonight's events. I completely agree with you that his campaign has been historic, and has many many energized supporters who do him and the country proud, and he achieved a delegate lead today, albeit before the voters of MT and SD had their say.

However, the media have been (falsely) saying Hillary is oh-you-tee OUT since Iowa, banging the drum all day today for Barack as the Super Delegate endorsements came in, and at the same time talking about what's next for her. Why would they stop now - Clinton psychoanalysis and speculation has been their bread and butter. They just can't help themselves, but I really don't see how that is Clinton's fault.

More importantly, the nomination isn't finalized until August, and our common victory will be all the sweeter when it is actually real.
  • The media has been insane all day. I wish they would have backed off and given her some space and respectan whether or not I think it was deserved. All day I said she was being pushed to the wall, but they weren't listening. ;-)
  • Really, now. Don't be a glutton.

There has been plenty of adulation for Obama from the popular press. There will be plenty, plenty more.

I mean, I noticed your TV is tuned to MSNBC. You can get your fix of Obama love every night---every night!---from Chris Matthews.
  • It would have been tuned to my old ex-friend CNN but after they behaved like guantanamo interrogators with the mayor of Gary,IN last month, they became dead to me.
