Ex: the rnc is conducting a focus group to determine how much racism can be injected into the race before the american public hollers, "foul!"
the link below, from today's liberal jewish blog, haaretz, contains a good looking summary of the upcoming obama-mccain face-off through perspective of a middle easterner's lens. maybe you can use it.
look also at today's latimes for a good-looking oped on obama's blackness, and recommendations about how americans should deal with the issue. i made a bookmark for it but can't send it because leaving this box messes up all my notes
hope that this helps

thanks for the link and tip on the LA Times OpEd. I will be writing more about the issue of racism, since it's something that will have to be overcome. I had read about the GOP polling on race/gender issues earlier this week and have to say I wasn't at all surprised.
There are going to be some who will simply be racist. I'd like to think they're in the minority. What's important, I think, is that Obama takes hold of the issues that really do matter and start hammering them home, because the more he talks about what matters to people, the less the race card will matter to anyone with his/her eyes open.
I admit that the race issue is the one that I worry about most, because I've seen the ugly KKK undercurrents here on the web and am not so naive to think we've completely overcome it. In my opinion, that's why the youth vote is such a critical factor -- there just isn't the same race barrier with most college kids, GenX and GenY voters as there is with older voters. I'm a baby boomer and grew up through the civil rights era...but then, I also had parents that made sure I understood how ugly racism truly is. Other friends were not so fortunate.
Thanks for your comments!
